Android Auto: First-Class, Not an Afterthought

Many radio apps offer "Android Auto support" that amounts to a basic now-playing screen and a skip button. LiveTune Radio goes much further — you get the same 4-tab browsing experience on Android Auto that you get on CarPlay. Same layout, same content, same customization.

How It Works

LiveTune Radio uses Android's media browse protocol to expose a browseable content tree to Android Auto. When you connect your phone to your car, Android Auto reads this tree and displays it in the standard media interface. The browse tree is built from the same car settings configuration you set up for CarPlay — one setup, both platforms.

Technical Details (for the curious)

The browse tree is resolved from your shared car display mode (Settings → Car Settings) plus your custom tab configuration. This means the same settings that control CarPlay also control Android Auto — one configuration, both platforms, fully compliant with Google Play media-app requirements.

Customize Your Android Auto Layout

Go to Settings → Car Settings in the app:

Now Playing + Media Controls

The Android Auto Now Playing screen shows station artwork and track metadata. Standard media controls (play, pause, skip) are available. Volume is controlled by your car's audio system. Steering wheel controls work as expected — next/previous track buttons are mapped to the app's media session.

Frequently Asked

Does it work with wireless Android Auto?
Yes. LiveTune Radio works with both wired and wireless Android Auto. The connection type doesn't affect the browsing experience.
Does the app keep running when I disconnect?
Yes. When you disconnect from Android Auto, playback continues on your phone. The foreground audio service remains active so you can reconnect and resume control from the car at any time.
What Android versions are supported?
Android Auto support requires Android 8.0 (API 26) or later. The app targets the latest Android SDK and is tested on Android 14 and 15.
