Frequently Asked Questions

A station stopped working or plays silence

Radio stations are provided by thousands of independent operators worldwide through the Radio Browser directory. Stations may go offline temporarily or permanently.

Try these steps:

  • Check your internet connection
  • Try a different station to see if the issue is specific to one stream
  • If a station is consistently broken, long-press it and tap "Report Problem" to flag it in the Radio Browser database
How do I use CarPlay or Android Auto?

LiveTune Radio supports both CarPlay and Android Auto natively.

  • CarPlay: Connect your iPhone to a CarPlay-compatible vehicle or head unit. The app will appear on the CarPlay screen with 5 tabs: Home, History, Radio, Podcasts, and Search.
  • Android Auto: Connect your Android phone to your car. LiveTune Radio appears as an audio source. You can browse favorites, history, and trending content.

You can customize what content appears in the car display via Settings → Car Display Mode (Full, Simple, Radio Focus, Podcast Focus, or Minimal).

Playback stops when I close the app

LiveTune Radio is designed to play in the background. If playback stops:

  • iOS: Make sure Background Audio is not restricted in Settings → General → Background App Refresh
  • Android: Some manufacturers (Xiaomi, Huawei, Samsung) aggressively kill background apps. Check your device's battery optimization settings and add LiveTune Radio to the "Don't optimize" list
Can I import or export my favorites?

Currently, favorites and settings are stored locally on your device. Sharing individual stations and podcasts is possible via the share button (which generates a deep link), but bulk import/export is not yet available.

Does the app use mobile data?

Yes, streaming radio and podcasts requires an internet connection. The amount of data depends on the stream's bitrate. A typical radio stream at 128 kbps uses approximately 60 MB per hour.

Station and podcast metadata is cached locally, so browsing the app uses minimal data after the initial load.

Is the app really free? What's the catch?

LiveTune Radio is completely free. There are no ads, no subscriptions, no in-app purchases, and no account required. The app is an independent project built with open data sources (Radio Browser and Podcast Index).

How do I get notified about new podcast episodes?

After subscribing to a podcast, tap the notification bell icon in the podcast options sheet. The app periodically checks for new episodes in the background and sends a local notification when one is found.

Note: Notification delivery depends on your device's background task scheduling and may vary by manufacturer.

How do I change the app's look?

Go to Settings → Appearance to customize:

  • Theme: System, Light, or Dark mode
  • Accent color: 9 color options
  • Font size: Adjustable from 80% to 150%
  • Bold text option
Current version: LiveTune Radio is regularly updated with new features and improvements. Make sure you're running the latest version from the App Store or Google Play.
